Our Purpose

To fund, facilitate and carry out activities which promote, protect and support breastfeeding including:

• developing and delivering breastfeeding education events both for health care professionals as well as mothers and the community at large.
• paying shipping costs of donated breastmilk between the Greater Victoria area and the Milk Bank in Vancouver for families who need assistance.

Our History

Established in 1997, the Breastfeeding Matters group was born out of the need for support and networking within the breastfeeding community and the need for continuing education for lactation consultants. 

Since then we have hosted many educational events featuring nationally and internationally recognized experts in breastfeeding medicine and management.

We have organized and co-hosted, with VIHA, the annual Quintessence Breastfeeding Challenge for the last 9 years.
